MAN BEHIND THE SAINT - A FATEFUL JOURNEY OF FAITH
This video is the seventh installment of a podcast series titled "Augustine: The Man Behind the Saint," hosted by Father Barnaby Johns, the Prior Provincial of the California Augustinians, O.S.A.
In this episode of "Augustine: The Man Behind the Saint," Father Barnaby Johns discusses Chapter 3 of Possidius's biography, focusing on Augustine's "retirement" in Thagaste starting in 389. During this three-year period, Augustine set aside worldly possessions to lead a monastic life of prayer, fasting, and meditation with friends while sharing his wisdom through sermons and books. The narrative shifts to an "agent of affairs" in Hippo Regius who, hearing of Augustine’s fame, promised to devote his life to God if Augustine visited him personally. Augustine undertook a difficult three-day journey over mountainous terrain to Hippo in a fervent attempt to convert the man’s soul. This episode concludes with a cliffhanger regarding the success of this mission! Learn also about the upcoming "Tolle Lege Perspectives" book club and the "Made for More" discussion series.
